Paul Mercier's expertise as a consultant and executive coach has been refined throughout his thirteen years of service since his retirement as a superintendent, and reflects his commitment to continuous growth and improvement for clients and self.  He is especially recognized for his work in the areas of leadership development and performance, Superintendent-Board relations, team building, and organizational health.

 

He was selected as the 2006 California Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA).  He was additionally honored by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) as their 2007 California State Superintendent of the Year

 

His career reflects participation in a variety of ongoing national and state professional development organizations.  He has been an active leader in organizations supporting education, such as ACSA, Urban Schools Association of America (USAA), and School Employers Association of California (SEAC).

 

Mr. Mercier served in school districts for 42 years, including 16 years as Superintendent.  He was also an Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, as well as both a principal and teacher at the elementary and middle school levels.  He currently serves as a state-wide developer and facilitator for professional development programs for superintendents.

 

Following undergraduate study at Concordia University, Chicago, Mr. Mercier received his master’s degree with honors in educational administration from California State University, Long Beach.

 

Married for over 40 years, he and Mrs. Mercier have two adult children.  One is an elementary school teacher and the other is an environmental engineer.
