Dr. Duane Coleman has more than 30 years’ experience in education, having held positions from high school teacher to superintendent in the Oceanside/San Diego area. Dr. Coleman currently serves as an adjunct professor at American College of Education in the master’s and doctoral programs and National University in the educational leadership department.
Earning a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Hawaii, he went on from there to earn a master’s in business administration from National University and a master’s in educational technology from Central Michigan University. Dr. Coleman then earned an education specialist degree from Point Loma and a doctorate in educational leadership from Alliant International University.
He holds a Professional Administrative Clear Credential; an Education Specialist Credential; a Physical Education Credential; and a California College Life Credential. He also has enjoyed memberships in the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA); Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD); Association of American School Administrators (AASA); and he was a member of the Rotary Club of Oceanside from 2014-2018.
Dr. Coleman has been involved in several educational and collaborative community initiatives, including founder and current board member of the Oceanside Promise Initiative; San Diego County CIF Board of Managers President; State CIF Federated Executive Committee member; and Executive Committee Co-Chair for the San Diego County College & Career Readiness Consortium. He has given several keynotes and motivational speeches and is also the recipient of several awards and honors, such as the 2018 Unsung Hero Award and 2018 California Retired Superintendent of the Year from the African American Administrators Association; NAACP Man of the Year; Principal, California Distinguished School, and National Blue Ribbon nominee – Oak Crest Middle School; SDUHSD Crystal Apple Administrator of the Year; and, yes, Denver Broncos wide receiver, among other awards.
